Some good advice from Mark Boulton at last weeks Ampersand conference in Brighton. When choosing a font for your next project start with designing a sample of paragraph text first. If your paragraph doesn’t look right in your chosen font, choose another one. The paragraph is the DNA of your type.

From the paragraph work your way up the elements with lists, blockquotes, tables, forms and headings. Try to leave styling the headings till last so that you ensure the proportions between the paragraph and the headings is consistent. Doing headings first may result in paragraph text that is too small.
